How much is Tomato currently used in organization of competitions?

  • Tomato is currently being used for organization of martial arts tournaments all over the world practically every weekend. There was a page on this site since 2005. that had the list of recent competitions, but by the end of 2008. the track couldn't be kept any more. Tomato simply started being used almost every weekend. Because of its ease of use and flexibility, it is used for all levels of competitions, from local tournaments to official state championships.

  • For what martial arts can Tomato be used?

  • Tomato was designed to be flexible from the start so it can be used for any martial arts tournament. It has always been used mostly in Taekwondo because the development team is consisted of Taekwondo competitors and referees, but there are no limitations whatsoever to use it for Karate, Judo, Boxing, or any other martial art.

  • How fast can I start using the program after I decide to buy it?

  • Tomato can be bought online. Installation is sent automatically after the transfer from an online server. In order to complete the installation, you will need to get the activation code, which usually takes less than 15 minutes, but depending on your time zone, you might wait for several hours. This step is simply there for the software protection. Anyway, the moment you decide to buy Tomato and the moment you start it on your computer, usually are in the same day.

  • What is the CSV file format that Tomato imports?

  • If you have an online competitor registration system or any kind of competitor database, you will definitely want to use Tomato CSV import feature. CSV files consist of a large number of lines, each having several columns separated by characters ',' or ';'. You just need to know which columns are expected, and in which order. Here they are:

    COMPETITOR_CLUB,COMPETITOR_NAME,GENDER,AGE_CATEGORY,WEIGHT_CATEGORY

The best explanation is often a simple example. Here are a few lines of a CSV file that can be imported in Tomato:

    Tiger,Mathew West,M,Senior;-68
    Purdue,Maria Johnson,F,Senior;-57
    Purdue,Andrew Hopkins,M,Senior,+80
    Stanford,Ned Sutton,M,Senior;-68

Before the competitor import, you will first need to synchronize age and weight categories in Tomato and competitor database. This can also be done simply by exporting the existing categories to a new CSV file and import them in Tomato before importing the competitors. Here is the CSV file format for age and weight categories:

    AGE_CATEGORY,MALE_WEIGHT_CATEGORY,FEMALE_WEIGHT_CATEGORY

The next example shows the entire CSV file as it should look like when importing all standard Taekwondo Olympic categories (4 male and 4 female categories):

    Senior,-58,-49
    Senior,-68,-57
    Senior,-80,-67
    Senior,+80,+67
